Nigeria on Thursday began to export yams to Europe and the United States. This is to help diversify its oil-dependent economy.
According to the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Nigeria accounts for 61 per cent of the world’s total yam output.
But with food shortages in some parts of the country like the northeast and food inflation reaching 20 percent. Many Nigeria though excited but panics that this policy that looks good might back-fire and hit consumers hard in their pocket.
